The Rise of the Southeast Regional Open
July 19, 2023 · By Council Staff
The Southeast Regional Open has rotated through Charlotte, Savannah, Charleston, Nashville, and Tampa since its first sanctioned edition, and now draws some of the deepest regional fields in the Council's calendar outside the National Championship itself. Georgia's Derek Oyelaran, South Carolina's Carmen Diaz, and Tennessee's Keisha Jefferson have anchored the field since the beginning.
The one constant through all five editions: Michael Salomone has never lost his home region. The runner-up spots are where the real parity shows up — five different competitors have finished second across the event's five sanctioned years, evidence the Council's competitive committee points to as proof the region's talent pool, outside of Salomone himself, may be the deepest in the country.
