Meet Jake Winslow, the Only Man to Beat Michael Salomone at Nationals
March 9, 2022 · By Dana Whitfield, Staff Writer
Before he became the answer to a trivia question — who is the only competitor to ever beat Michael Salomone at a National Championship — Jake Winslow was known on the West Coast Open circuit simply as fast. His speed-coring technique, built around removing the core in a single motion rather than digging it out in pieces, made him the region's top-ranked eater from the Council's first sanctioned season.
Winslow has never shied away from what makes his career interesting to outsiders: the 2022 win, and the four second-place finishes to Salomone that came before and after it. 'I'm proud of that win every single day,' he's said. 'I'm also realistic about what the rest of the scoreboard says.'
